Good acoustic design is an important consideration in healthcare buildings. Among the key concerns in the design of these buildings are ensuring confidentiality in treatment and consulting rooms, creating quiet and restful conditions for patient wards and bedrooms and providing good working conditions for staff. Health Technical Memorandum HTM 08-01 sets out noise, vibration and acoustic criteria for the design and management of new hospitals and healthcare facilities and states that “A specialist acoustic adviser should be used to take a holistic approach to the acoustic design”.

Hodgson & Hodgson Acoustic Consultancy provides all the necessary professional advice and assistance on the acoustic design of healthcare facilities and can be on hand for the duration of the project. We will undertake site visits to carry out survey and assessment work in order to inform design teams of the treatment needed to address the requirements of HTM 08-01. Pre-completion testing can also be provided for the completed facility to ensure compliance.

From small doctors’ surgeries to large hospitals, we appreciate that every healthcare building is different, we work with design teams to develop a bespoke approach to the technical challenges of each project. Using the extensive knowledge and expertise we have built up over more than 30 years in business, we pride ourselves on providing our clients with first rate support and cost effective design solutions.

Acoustic related credits are available in BREEAM Healthcare from Hea 13-Acoustic Performance and Pol 8-Noise Attenuation where, in both cases, a suitably qualified acoustic consultant is required at either design, post construction phase or both. Hodgson & Hodgson is a compliant test body registered with the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) and where BREEAM credits are being sought, can carry out all the necessary required survey, assessment and commissioning work as well as prepare evidence required for the assessor.

We have considerable experience in providing noise, vibration and acoustic advice for all manner of healthcare facilities including small clinics, GP and dental surgeries, community hospitals, nursing homes, specialist testing facilities, medical laboratories, clean rooms and large hospital complexes.
