BREEAM Assessment

The Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation and has become one of the most comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a building's environmental performance. Acoustics and environmental noise control form part of the BREEAM rating criteria and there are a number of credits available depending on the building type. BREEAM requires that a suitably qualified acoustician is appointed to provide consultancy in relation to the following two categories:

Hea 05 – Acoustic Performance, which aims to ensure that the building’s acoustic performance meets the appropriate standards for its purpose in relation to indoor ambient noise levels, sound insulation, reverberation time and rain noise.

Pol 05 – Noise Attenuation, which aims to reduce the likelihood of noise arising from the new development affecting nearby noise-sensitive buildings.

Hodgson & Hodgson is suitably qualified to provide a full range of services in support of achieving BREEAM credits from pre-bid to completion for education, healthcare, industrial and commercial, retail, multi-residential buildings and prisons. We provide a design review and advice service and carry out noise surveys and assessments to show compliance with BREEAM noise attenuation criteria for a variety of building developments. Additionally, post construction acoustic testing can be carried out to show compliance with the BREEAM acoustic performance targets.
