Architect: Baart Harries Newall

The iconic new Pelsall Village Centre, built on the site of the former Pelsall Library, features a library, pharmacy and children's centre on the ground floor, together with health offices and treatment rooms. Upstairs on the first floor there is a health centre with space to accommodate GP practices, complete with a large, open-plan waiting area, treatment and consultation rooms. The centre provides 56 car parking spaces and a children’s play area. Hodgson & Hodgson Acoustic Consultancy were commissioned to carry out an acoustic design strategy and noise impact assessment in order for the centre to achieve a “Very Good” rating for BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method).

Hodgson & Hodgson carried out environmental noise surveys to facilitate the design of the building envelope to control break-in noise and the specification of noise control measures for internal and external plant items and car park usage. The sound insulation performance of separating walls and floors were assessed to provide adequate speech privacy in acoustically sensitive areas. Reverberation was also assessed in order to maintain speech intelligibility.

Hodgson & Hodgson Acoustic Consultancy is a leading multi-disciplinary acoustical consulting practice offering advice on all aspects of noise and vibration control. With over 25 years experience in the business, the company prides itself on providing clients with first rate support and cost effective design solutions.
