Project: Acoustic Enclosures to 3 x 331 MVA Power Transformers

Scope of Hodgson & Hodgson Group Supply The design, manufacture and installation of three Acoustic Enclosures, each in excess of 12m x 6m x 6m high using a special panel configuration designed to maximise attenuation at low frequencies to combat the transformer noise. Acoustic Parameters The noise limits for much of the equipment at Keadby Power Station were unusually low, due to the location of nearby residences. Design Features The low frequency attenuation requirements of the enclosures called for special heavy duty panels. Being external, the enclosures had to be weather proofed and careful detailing was required around the HV Bushing penetrations in the enclosure roof. To comply with non-magnetic material specifications, the area around each bushing was constructed from stainless steel. All panels and framework are earthed. Two single leaf personnel doors were included in each enclosure and incorporated internal panel panic release bars. Lift-up panels in the roof allow personnel onto a permanent chequer plate platform inside the enclosure for access to the HV bushing connection manholes. Acoustically treated ventilation ducts were included at low level and also on the roof for natural ventilation. Lighting was supplied internally to provide a level of 150 Lux and emergency lighting was incorporated.
