RailTherm Rolling Stock Thermal Insulation is manufactured from a core product of shotfree, non-combustible glass fibre that can be die-cut to size and shape and is usually totally encapsulated in a reinforced aluminium foil vapour barrier.

RailTherm is availble in a range of densities and a full or striped self-adhesive system can be added to one or more sides if required.

The parts are used in the cavity between the inner and outer fabrication of the rolling stock in the ceilings, sides, intermediate ends, floors and cabs, to offer thermal insulation that will meet the highest required British Rail Standard BS6853
Cat 1a.

Acoustic HeatShields

M949 Acoustic HeatShields are manufactured from long strand glass fibre needlemat, faced one side with reinforced aluminium foil with self-adhesive backing on the reverse.

M1019 Acoustic HeatShields incorporate an additional polymeric barrier core to further improve sound transmission performance.

They are designed to provide both thermal and acoustic insulation in areas exposed to extreme variations of temperature and high levels of noise emission from metal surfaces.

Acoustic HeatShields are available in sheets or can be die-cut to size and shape.

BOAK Faced Insulation

Boak Faced Thermal Insulation is manufactured from glass fibre enclosed in a three-ply laminate of aluminium foil and polyethylene, reinforced with a glass scrim "tear stopper" and bonded with a fire retardant thermosetting adhesive.

The material is tailored to rail vehicle dimensions using the most cost-effective nesting available to reduce fitting and labour time on the build site.

Exhaust/Silencer Jackets

Thermos Exhaust and Silencer Jackets are tailor made using long strand glass or rock fibre, typically encapsulated in combinations of glass or silica coated fabrics.

Knitted wire mesh hot face barrier may be incorporated to ensure integrity. Jackets may also incorporate lightweight stainless steel on the inner face as an alternative. Edges may be bound and sewn using PTFE threads. A wide range of fixings and fastenings can be incorporated into the jackets including straps and buckles, Velcro, hooks, eyelets and draw strings.

Thermos Exhaust and Silencer Jackets are designed for high temperature applications or wherever there is a requirement for insulation to be removed and re-fitted at frequent intervals. Performance requirements for thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, personnel protection or a combination of all, dictate specification.
