John
Deere Gets the DecoSound and SoftSound Treatment
Courses
run by John Deere's Nottinghamshire training centre are a lot more effective
since the workshops were fitted out with acoustic products DecoSound and
SoftSound by Hodgson & Hodgson Group. The four training workshops
were highly reverberant, making audibility very difficult for both lecturers
and attendees. Not surprisingly the company was anxious to resolve the
problem.
Hodgson
& Hodgson Group's consultant engineers recommended that a reduction
in the reverberation time (RT) in the workshop of more than two seconds
could be achieved by fitting specially constructed acoustic panels to
three of the four walls. The proposal was proved by fitting out one of
the workshops with 170m² of Hodgson & Hodgson's own branded DecoSound
acoustic panelling.
The
installation was successful, with tests confirming that the calculated
reverberation times had been achieved. John Deere subsequently decided
to have the remaining three workshops treated and further asked if a treatment
could be recommended for the cafeteria area. Hodgson & Hodgson proposed
its SoftSound wall panels should
be used in conjunction with, in this instance, the use of DecoSound as
a ceiling panel.
Commenting
on the installation, Roger Giles of Hodgson & Hodgson says "John
Deere were concerned that the effectiveness of their training was being
diluted by the poor acoustics of its facility. By treating the workshops
with DecoSound, we've improved audibility and ensured that every message
is delivered with greater effect. Also, having proved the effectiveness
of DecoSound in the workshops, the successful use of SoftSound in the
cafeteria was a real bonus. We are particularly pleased with these installations
as we also supply noise control components for John Deere's vehicles so
their continued success is, in part, linked with our own".
